Large-Scale E-Learning Curricula for Manufacturers to be Showcased by The Society of Manufacturing Engineers

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) will showcase the new training and education courses and products available through its recently launched Learning Center during an Open House on Monday, December 10, 2001. The Open House takes place from 9 a.m. until noon at SME Headquarters at One SME Drive in Dearborn. The event is free and open to the public. SME’s Learning Center is an on-line repository of more than 1,100 courses on lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, best business practices, professional development, OSHA standards, and dozens of other topics ranging from very technical to broader business applications. The courses provide interactive e-learning opportunities that allow participants to advance their knowledge and skills for less cost and greater convenience than conventional training alternatives.

“As companies cut back on their training and travel budgets, they are experiencing an increased need for employee training,” said Richard Siyufy, manager of e-learning products. “Our Learning Center is the one-stop solution for manufacturing professionals to use to meet their training needs. During the Open House, manufacturing, information technology and human resource professionals can explore the on-line courses that are available and see how easy and convenient on-line learning can be.

Nancy Berg, SME Executive Director and General Manager will host the Open House. Joining Berg through an online link is Elliott Massie, a leading expert in e-learning; and Dr. David Spencer, President of Michigan Virtual University, a partner of SME for many of the courses offered. Massie will discuss how e-learning provides training opportunities that help manufacturing companies, large and small keep their workforce on top of the latest trends and technologies.
