Salt Lake Community College has signed a $26.5 million deal with CollegisEduprise Inc.

December 14, 2001

Students at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) and visitors to the 2002 Winter Olympics city may witness more than sports and athletic excellence on this Rocky Mountain world stage. They’re sure to find technology and “e-Education excellence” there as well.

CollegisEduprise, a Florida-based technology services and e-Education provider to higher education, has signed a five-year, $26.5-million partnership with SLCC to deliver comprehensive information technology (IT) management services, featuring administrative systems management, infrastructure support and instructional development services on its three full-service campuses and eight teaching centers throughout Utah. SLCC is confident a trend toward e-Education, which encompasses the use of various online, Web-based, Web-enhanced and distance learning technologies, will increase revenue opportunities and improve the college’s reputation as a leader in academic technology.

The agreement will improve the institution’s network infrastructure through expanded Web services, help desk and user support services, remote monitoring, and software support. CollegisEduprise will implement an instructional technology plan to enhance distance learning and support a Faculty Teaching and Learning Center.

The highlight of the $5.3 million annual investment comes with the planned development of an International Center for e-Education Excellence that will serve as a showcase and clearinghouse for innovative applications of technology in classrooms worldwide. Leaders envision an “energy crystal” of learning activity with Web-enhanced technology at the center of academic advancements.

“Salt Lake Community College has an earned reputation for successfully training and educating the residents of Greater Salt Lake,” said Collegis President Tom Huber. “We are impressed with their vision of becoming an innovative leader and look forward to partnering with them in creating a technology-driven, learning-centered environment.”

The partnership highlights the role of technology on college and university campuses and underscores the desire for faculty to continue learning with the students.

“With the Olympic Games scheduled to begin here early next year, the world will be focused on us, a wonderful opportunity to lead conversation on the role of technology in higher education,” said SLCC President H. Lynn Cundiff. “Partnering with CollegisEduprise offers us the potential for providing our faculty enhanced teaching abilities as well as expanding the learning opportunities afforded our students.”
