WebCT Selected by The Tennessee Board of Regents to Power E-Learning for all Higher Education Institutions
LYNNFIELD, Mass. & VANCOUVER, BC — WebCT, the Leading Course Management System was also selected by the TBR for their new Regents Online Degree Program
A college degree may be considerably more accessible to Tennesseans thanks to five new online degree programs offered by the colleges and universities of the Tennessee Board of Regents and powered by WebCT.
WebCT, the world’s leading provider of integrated e-learning systems for higher education, announced today that it was selected by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) as the course management system provider for the new Regents Online Degree Programs. In addition, all of the degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the TBR system will be using WebCT to provide online courses to their students.
The new programs are a joint effort of all 19 of the Regents colleges and universities and allow students to earn college degrees entirely online. Students may choose the college or university that will award their degrees, register, take all their courses, and receive their degrees completely online. “For students who have had to `stop out’ of college because of family or job commitments, this is an opportunity to continue their education while meeting those responsibilities,” said Sidney McPhee, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Several of the colleges and universities in the TBR already use WebCT for e-learning programs for students both on and off-campus. TBR chose to standardize on WebCT for both its new Regents Online Degree Programs and for the online courses for all of its colleges and universities so that they would all benefit from the flexible, robust tool. “The pedagogical flexibility provided by WebCT means that our faculty will be able to easily create and offer sophisticated online courses of the highest caliber,” said Robbie Kendall-Melton, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and for the Regents Online Degree Programs for TBR. “WebCT’s leadership in the industry as well as its commitment to fostering excellence in e-Learning provides TBR with resources beyond the software to help us create outstanding online programs.”
“With TBR’s standardization on WebCT, the higher education institutions will be able to share resources, and collaborate, as is seen in the Regents Online Degree Programs,” said Charles Manning, Chancellor of TBR. In addition, TBR will join nearly 2,000 higher education institutions that have selected WebCT for their e-Learning programs.
“The Tennessee Board of Regents has established one of the most exciting offerings from a University system with their Regents Online Degree program. We are thrilled that WebCT was chosen to power the courses in this program as well as for all of the TBR higher education online courses,” said Carol Vallone, CEO of WebCT. “The TBR is significantly advancing the state of e-learning in Tennessee and we are proud to partner with them.”
