Students enrolled at California State University-Long Beach this fall may find that more and more of their classes are now enhanced by BeachBoard, an electronic learning environment which may allow them to obtain course information, participate in discussions and even take quizzes from the comfort of home.
Applications for elearning are perhaps harder to create than any other. You need a database to track the progress of students through courses, a rich graphical interface able to support complex interactions plus easy Webbased distribution.
What some call “glorified Rolodexes” are marching through school doors this fall in growing numbers. High schools in Dade County, Fla., and Omaha, Neb., are testing them with student groups.
