SETDA Announces New Strategic Plan for 2017-2020

October 20, 2016 (Washington, D.C.) SETDA, the principal membership association of U.S. state and territorial educational technology leaders announced today the key initiatives of its new Strategic Plan. The 2017-2020 Plan builds on SETDA’s 15-year record of leading and learning in the Digital Age and embraces the shift in education towards leveraging digital tools to maximize learning for each individual student. A major premise of the new plan involves leveraging technology for learning as a way to both support educators in their commitment to personalize learning for all students, and to provide a clear, common pathway to equity of education for all students.

The priorities outlined in the new plan include: advocacy, state action, strategic partnerships, professional learning, communications, and operations. These priorities align with SETDA’s vision to lead, inspire and empower the education community through its work and are framed within the following set of value commitments:

  • Serving every U.S. State and territorial education agency
  • Maintaining a future-focused, holistic view on how to leverage technology for learning
  • Fostering collaboration among SETDA members, strategic partners, and other education leaders and policymakers
  • Taking action on the important issues facing public education
  • Ensuring equity of access to all facets of learning

“Educational technology has truly become an integral part of teaching and learning in the Digital Age,” stated Candice Dodson, SETDA Board Chair and Director of eLearning, Indiana Department of Education. “SETDA is proud to be the national leadership organization supporting all states to advance education through technology policy and practice. Via the approach detailed in our new strategic plan, we intend to sharpen the focus of our work, to do so collaboratively with others who share our goals, and to make a marked difference in teaching and learning.”

“With the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), our state leaders are in an even greater position to truly leverage educational technology across all areas of teaching and learning and offer equitable access to high quality content and instruction,” notes Tracy Weeks, SETDA Executive Director. “SETDA is committed to supporting our state educational technology leaders in these efforts.”
