Polycom to Demonstrate Unified Management Suite for Rich Media Communications At E-Learning Conference & EXPO
WASHINGTON, D.C.– – Polycom®, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLCM), a worldwide leader in broadband communication solutions, today announced Polycoms Network Systems Group will demonstrate its Accord GW-25 Gateway product at the E-Learning Conference and Expo (formerly TeleCon East) April 17-20 in Washington, D.C (Booth 305). The gateway allows users to seamlessly communicate via voice and video between IP-based networks and traditional circuit-switch networks such as T-1, E-1 and ISDN.
The Accord GW-25 Gateway is the only system that transcodes all of the capabilities of different audio and video endpoints, including audio and video algorithms, line rate and frame rate, allowing for tremendous flexibility. Competing solutions only transcode a limited set of audio algorithms and none of the other parameters, significantly decreasing the reliability of the call connection.
By supporting a wide range of endpoints and industry standards, the Accord GW-25 Gateway continues to provide a versatile and uniquely flexible platform for empowering rich media communications, said Philip Keenan, senior vice president and general manager for Polycoms Network Systems Group. By enabling seamless interoperability between H.320 and H.323 endpoints in a point-to-point call, the Accord GW-25 Gateway facilitates migration from conventional circuit-switched networks to IP networks for rich media communications.
The Accord GW-25 Gateway is a popular choice for commercial enterprises, educational institutions and federal government organizations because it negotiates with existing firewalls to offer stringent security.
Incorporating firewall proxy technology to ensure security, the Accord GW-25 Gateway is based on the carrier-class, flexible architecture of the Accord line of network products that includes conference bridges, gateways and management solutions that empower rich media communications over IP, ATM and ISDN networks.
Thousands of legacy circuit-switch voice and video endpoints are deployed in major corporations, healthcare and educational networks. Network managers and service providers offering rich media communications services for corporate communications, training, telemedicine and distance learning need a solution that allows them to maximize their investment by incorporating existing legacy systems into their IP networks. The Accord GW-25 Gateway was specifically designed to address this problem.
The Accord GW-25 Gateway functionality is also available for existing installations of the Accord MGC-100™ Multipoint Control Unit, the flagship product of the Accord Product Line, providing investment protection for current Accord product installations looking to provide seamless point-to-point gateway services.
The Accord GW-25 Gateway will be demonstrated at E-Learning Conference & Expo, April 17-20, 2001, Washington Convention Center, Washington, DC, at the Polycom Network Systems booth 305, Upper Level, Hall B.
