OUBS Certificate Wins Professional Accreditation

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has granted the Open University Business School (OUBS) official recognition for its Professional Certificate in Management.

The accreditation means that the 1,600 students who have completed the Certificate since November 2000 will automatically be granted licentiate membership of the CIPD – Europe’s largest professional body representing those who specialise in people management and development.

“Gaining CIPD recognition is testimony to the quality of our Certificate,” says Professor Roland Kaye, OUBS Dean.

“It gives the qualification recognition from one of the leading professional bodies and will bring an added cache to those who already hold the Certificate as well as giving additional impetus to current and potential students.”

The CIPD’s Professional Development Scheme requires participants to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and competence in four fields:

• Core management

• People management and development

• Specialist and generalist personnel and development and

• Applied personnel and development standards

The OUBS Professional Certificate in Management has been awarded accreditation against one of the fields – core management.

OUBS students will be granted affiliate status of the CIPD whilst they study the Certificate and on successful completion will be granted licentiate membership. If they go on to complete the remaining three fields graduate membership of the CIPD will be granted.

The Professional Certificate in Management is made up of four three-month modules: Managing, which aims to develop a manager’s confidence and impact, Managing People, Managing Finance and Information, and Managing Customers and Quality. Each module benefits from all the features that have made OUBS the leading provider of distance learning in Europe. The unique OUBS system offers each student a comprehensive support system including a designated personal tutor who guides them through their studies, face to face tutorials, and an online study option for those unable to attend tutorials in person.

Students study in their own time, combining their studies with work, family and other commitments so they continue to earn while they learn.

Many companies are keen to support their staff and 60 per cent of all OUBS students are sponsored in whole or part by their employers.

Managers who complete the Professional Certificate in Management can then go on to study for the Professional Diploma in Management – the first stage of the OUBS MBA (Master of Business Administration).

The Open University Business School (OUBS) is Europe’s leading business school and the major provider of management development programmes delivered by supported distance learning.
