Gov Online Learning center selects plateau systems to join federal e-TRAINING initiative

December 4, 2002

Under the multiyear, multimillion-dollar contract, Plateau 4 LMS will provide one of the software infrastructures for the U.S. federal government’s main employee training site. Managed by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in partnership with the Department of Transportation and other federal agencies, the Gov Online Learning Center

(GOLC) provides one-stop access to e-Learning resources that help employees perform their jobs and enhance their careers. In addition, GOLC provides agencies with strategic human capital strategies to address mission-critical training needs. Built on open J2EE/EJB architecture, Plateau 4 LMS assists the Gov Online Learning Center to manage the scheduling, delivery and effectiveness of every learning activity it supports, giving administrators a holistic view of learning and knowledge in the federal government.

In its initial phase, the Gov Online Learning Center is offering 37 free online courses on a variety of topics, from sexual harassment prevention to IT/computer security. With the release of Module 2 (tentatively scheduled for January 30, 2003) thousands of additional e-Learning products, tools, and services will be brought online. The Gov Online Learning Center supports President George W. Bush’s Management Agenda, which calls for the Government

to be citizen-centered, results-oriented, and market- driven.

“The potential magnitude of the Government Online Learning Center is vast,” said analyst Michael Brennan of IDC, one of the world’s leading suppliers of technology intelligence and market analysis. “Plateau is well positioned to help make it a success in that the company’s technology and services improve their customers’ ability to develop employees more efficiently and effectively.”

“This is one of the most significant and innovative learning initiatives ever envisioned by government,” said Paul Sparta, Plateau’s Chairman and CEO. “We are extremely proud to be working with Gov Online Learning Center to help educate and enhance the careers of hundreds of thousands of federal workers, and to provide a platform to manage the institutional knowledge that makes our government the greatest in the world.”

Plateau 4 LMS is the only enterprise-class LMS built on J2EE/EJB architecture, considered the industry standard for enterprise software. This fully Web-based architecture reduces the IT infrastructure needed by large organizations to deliver and manage learning, and it provides a scalable, customizable platform that can be tailored to an organization’s unique business requirements. Earlier this year, OMB gave J2EE the highest overall technology ranking after running a series of tests.
