GeoLearning LMS to Power E-Learning Portal for Singapore’s Ministry of Defense
GeoLearning, Inc., the leading Application Service Provider (ASP) of learning management systems and e-learning content, announced today that Singapore’s Ministry of Defense (MinDef) has launched its e-PREP project on GeoLearning’s learning management system. The 3-year contract was won by AuraTech, GeoLearning’s strategic partner in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The project was officially launched by Cedric Foo, Singapore’s Minister of State for Defense.
The e-PREP online learning portal offers more than 500 e-learning courses from GeoLearning to the 65,000 members of the Singapore Armed Forces. The courses offered include training for desktop computer applications, IT certification preparation, languages, professional business skills and academic refresher titles. GeoLearning’s LMS consolidates courses from six content vendors while providing the registration, tracking and reporting functionality required to manage the e-learning portal.
“We are excited to offer such a diverse curriculum comprised of 35 natural languages, computer, IT, business and academic courses for the MinDef initiative,” said Brij Bagga, president of AuraTech.
“Without e-learning, National Service Men would have no alternative but to go for evening classes,” explained Jeremy Foo, the head of the MinDef Center for Management Development. After serving two or more years of full-time service, Singapore’s National Service Men enter the labor market or pursue further studies. Some of them feel out of touch or face the challenge of knowledge obsolescence.
The e-PREP initiative provides online preparatory and refresher courses to help ameliorate the knowledge problem and give National Service Men a head-start for their transition into the workforce or prepare them to pursue further academic studies.
