EATON JOINS NATIONAL DIGITAL STRATEGY ADVISORY BOARD
Nancy L. Eaton, Dean of University Libraries, has been appointed to the National Digital Strategy Advisory Board of the Library of Congress. The group will examine strategies to ensure the safekeeping of digital materials in order to prevent voids in historical archives.
The formation of the board is a first step in meeting a mandate, set forth by Congress in December 2000, which allocates a special $100-million appropriation for the Library of Congress to develop a National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program. It authorizes the Library to lead a national strategic-planning effort for long-term preservation of digital materials and to begin developing networked models of the necessary infrastructure
