Demands on these systems are increasing as policymakers, researchers, and consumers call for more accurate and comprehensive data concerning postsecondary education. Many states have tied institutional funding to performance metrics derived from such data while others have utilized data to make policy decisions, evaluate programs, and inform students. The ow of information between PSURSs and other data systems has grown more complex. Both federal and state governments invest in unit record data systems with the aim of improving information and data-driven decision-making.
