Director of ADL Initiative Receives Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Service

On January 17, 2001, Secretary of Defense William Cohen awarded Don Johnson, Director of the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Service. Mr. Tom Longstreth, the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Readiness, presided over the Pentagon ceremony. Mr. Longstreth praised Mr. Johnson’s vision and leadership and noted with pride the contribution that the ADL initiative has made to enhancing the readiness of Armed Forces of the United States.

The Deputy Under Secretary also highlighted Johnson’s remarkable ability to establish collaborative partnerships not only with Department of Defense (DoD) and other Federal agencies but also with industry and academia. Mr. Longstreth remarked that the DoD owes a debt of gratitude not only to Don Johnson but also to these visionary and valiant partners as well.
