Developer of World’s Largest Insurance Education Program Launches Online Learning Site – www.lomalearn.com

April 25, 2002

Since 1924, LOMA has educated or trained over 750,000 insurance and financial services professionals. World-renowned for providing some of the industry’s best and highest quality targeted learning materials and designation programs such as its flagship FLMI Education Program, LOMA already offers its print-based educational programs in five languages in over sixty countries throughout the world. Now, using the latest in distance learning technologies, LOMA is opening a whole new world of financial services learning opportunities…all accessible with just a few clicks of the mouse.

LOMALearn Online is LOMA’s new online learning site designed to offer insurance and financial services courses for organizations and individuals in the United States and Canada. Located at www.lomalearn.com, the new site has been developed through an alliance with Life Instructors, Inc., a unit of Fiserv, Inc., and will be hosted and supported by Life Instructors. In addition to offering a series of newly developed online LOMA courses covering the basics of insurance and financial services areas, such as life insurance, annuities, compliance, reinsurance and underwriting, LOMALearn will also offer a variety of courses from Life Instructors’ life, health, and securities libraries. Interested individuals will be able to access an online course catalog and register and take these online courses anywhere and at any time via the Internet.

“All financial services organizations today need to provide ongoing training, licensing, compliance, and continuing education to their employees regardless of their function or location,” notes LOMA President and CEO Thomas P. Donaldson, FLMI, CLU. “By combining LOMA’s course content with Life Instructors’ state-of-the-art learning management and delivery systems, we will be able to provide companies with an excellent learning solution to meet their online training needs in an efficient and cost effective manner.”

“Taking our content online will allow us to enhance our already strong partnership with member companies and place LOMA firmly at the center of the insurance and financial services online learning/continuing education marketplace,” said Donaldson. “Our alliance with Life Instructors, and other providers soon to be available through the site, will allow us to give customers a complete range of online learning options. Furthermore, our ability to quickly and easily update our online course materials combined with Life Instructors’ instructional design capabilities, delivery and tracking systems will enable us to provide a total solution for the lifelong learner, delivering results and value to both students and our members.”

“We are very pleased to have worked with LOMA to develop this new online endeavor,” adds Steve Figard, President of Life Instructors, “and we plan to continue to work with them to enhance the site as learning management and learning content management technologies continue to advance. Even as we launch the site, we are already making plans to incorporate additional elements from Life Instructors’ new Learning Resource Center, which features streamlined navigation, enhanced testing capabilities, simplified continuing education (CE) procedures, and other conveniences designed to improve the e-learning process. All LOMALearn customers will benefit from this new cutting-edge platform.”

Eventually, LOMA plans to expand its online offerings to include specialized certificate programs and online course sequences that will count as credit toward FLMI and other designation program courses.

“We know that our industry is changing more rapidly than ever,” said Dennis Goodwin, FLMI, ACS, LOMA Second Vice President for e-Business & Member Services. “Today’s financial services companies have significant training needs for new employees and for employees shifting into new product areas. Even seasoned industry professionals face enormous challenges in keeping up with the latest information and often need a quick refresher. We have developed LOMALearn Online to meet these needs. Our goal is to create the most comprehensive professional financial services education site available and to continue to provide the high-quality and affordable education our member companies and other customers have come to expect. We are confident that LOMALearn Online will save our member organizations and their employees a significant amount of time and money.”

Courses will be offered individually and in packages on a yearly subscription basis. Courses may be purchased online by credit card or through a corporate contract account. LOMA member companies and their employees will receive discounted rates on LOMALearn Online courses. Volume discounts will be available for larger purchases. As appropriate, CE credit also will be available for most courses.

Corporate administration and learning management features will also be available through the site. “Organizations will have a great deal of flexibility in customizing and managing their employees’ learning process through LOMALearn,” said Goodwin.

LOMA also currently offers online learning courses for individuals and organizations outside the United States and Canada through The Global Institute for Financial Services at www.globaledegree.com.
