Click2learn’s Aspen Learning Management System Earns SCORM 1.2 Certification
BELLEVUE, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–July 16, 2003–In a further representation of its industry leadership in learning standards development and adoption, Click2learn (Nasdaq:CLKS), leader in enterprise productivity solutions, today announced that its Aspen Learning Management System (LMS) has been awarded SCORM 1.2 certification, the highest level of conformance with the Shareable Content Object Reference Model learning standard. The Aspen LMS is among the first in the industry, and the only major LMS, to receive this certification, granted by the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative (ADL), a joint project of the U.S. Department of Defense, National Guard Bureau, and Department of Labor, and the original generator of the SCORM standard.
The Aspen LMS is a global, scalable, 100% Web-based application that enables organizations to manage a full range of blended learning activities, including self-paced, live interactive and instructor-led sessions. It delivers rich capabilities in the areas of performance management, competency management, regulatory compliance, learner registration and tracking, records management, facilities and curricula management and reporting. It also allows organizations to align individual competencies with business goals to improve overall business performance efficiently and cost-effectively.
The Wisconsin Testing Organization at the Academic ADL Co-Lab in Madison, Wis., one of the two centers accredited by ADL for certification, conducted the testing and issued the certification. The organization used the same Aspen LMS implementation that a Click2learn customer might deploy, running a rigorous test suite of SCORM 1.2 content through the LMS to ensure smooth interoperability.
“Click2learn has been a SCORM early adopter from the beginning and ADL applauds their commitment to certifying the Aspen LMS,” said Paul Jesukiewicz, director of the ADL Co-Lab. “Granting standards certification for learning technologies such as the Aspen LMS is part of the ADL initiative’s mission to provide access to high-quality education and training materials that can be tailored to individual learner needs and made available whenever and wherever they are required. Broad-scale adoption and support of the SCORM standard by industry leaders such as Click2learn is crucial to the creation of a streamlined, common technical framework for computer and Web-based learning that will meet the needs of today’s workforce and the workforce of the future.”
“Achieving this certification gives our customers the assurance that any SCORM 1.2 content — from third-party providers or self-created — will work seamlessly and easily with their Aspen LMS implementations, significantly reducing content integration and support costs. It is part of the ‘SCORM-ready, Aspen-ready’ philosophy that drives our product development and provides our customers with the most powerful, flexible learning technology available today,” said Kevin Oakes, chairman and CEO of Click2learn. “Certification of Aspen is another step in our ongoing efforts to support learning standards adoption and development and to underscore the profound impact we believe standards can have on an organization’s return on investment and on the health and longevity of our industry as a whole. We will continue to pursue and look forward to earning certification for future versions of Aspen.”
