For a growing number of people, the home computer is also a school. By 2005, one of every three people in higher education will get their schooling from a distance, according to Richard Klawiter, an instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
The Distance Education Certificate Program has four $1,250 scholarships available to cover half of the $2,500 tuition fee to enroll in the Collaborative Learning Track (CLT) that starts October 1, 2001. Scholarship recipients are responsible for paying the remaining half ($1,250) and must commit to completing all requirements in the one-year CLT program.
Oregon State University officials will ask the state Board of Higher Education for a 4 percent tuition increase next year, the most allowable by the state Legislature, at the board’s Friday meeting.
