Books24x7 and Intel Deliver New Subscription-Based On-line Library for Intel Architecture Developers

September 9, 2003

NORWOOD, Mass., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Books24x7, a subsidiary of SkillSoft PLC (Nasdaq: SKIL), and Intel Corporation today announced the availability of the Intel(R) Developer Library, an essential online collection of the most relevant technical books and information hand picked by industry experts for the Intel Architecture (IA) developer. The library includes books from a variety of publishers, including Microsoft Press, John Wiley & Sons, Intel Press, and McGraw-Hill. The Intel Developer Library, which will be marketed by both Books24x7 and Intel, leverages Books24x7’s technology platform, hosting expertise, and patent-pending search technology.

The Intel Developer Library, available to individual and corporate subscribers, is targeted for those professional developers creating or maintaining products that incorporate Intel-based products, architectures, and technologies. By giving developers easier, faster access to essential, technical information, the Intel Developer Library can help companies reduce time-to-market for products incorporating Intel technology and increase overall developer productivity. Subject matter in the Intel Developer Library, chosen by experts in the targeted audience, is considered the most critically important to developers of hardware and software products in large and growing markets, including home and business computing, wireless devices, and converged communications infrastructure.

The introductory cost of an individual one-year subscription to the Intel Developer Library is $399, available through October 31, 2003; the regular individual subscription rate is $499 per year. Corporate discounts are offered.

Incorporating Books24x7’s powerful search technology, the Intel Developer Library gives subscribers the ability to pinpoint specific information in seconds. Multi-level searches can be performed on all material in the collection, on a specific set of materials, or on a single resource.

“Both Books24x7 and Intel recognize the business value in making critical information easily accessible to busy technologists whenever they need it,” said John Ambrose, general manager of Books24x7. “The Intel Developer Library brings together the resources required by professional developers with powerful search and usability tools to increase the productivity and efficiency of information searches.”

Ambrose cited recent IDC research that shows that knowledge workers spend 15 to 20% of their time actively looking for specific information; however, these searches are successful less than 50% of the time. According to the research, these unsuccessful searches could cost a company employing 1,000 knowledge workers $6 million in time lost and $15 million in opportunity losses. “The Intel Developer Library will help minimize these losses – and
potentially could result in revenue gain,” said Ambrose. “In the world of converged computing and communications, I can’t think of a more pressing issue for developers than quickly finding key technical information necessary to complete their products and get them to market faster,” observes Dan Russell, vice president and director of technical operations for Intel’s sales and marketing group. “These developers are under intense schedule pressures to bring innovative products to market and realize business value for their firms. The Intel Developer Library is yet another example of Intel’s commitment to ensuring that developers are informed about the latest enhancements to Intel building blocks and enhancing productivity in the entire developer community.”

Developers can obtain a free trial to the Intel Developer Library by logging onto www.intel.com/idl. The Intel Developer Library will be demonstrated at the Intel Developer Forum, September 16-18, in San Jose.
