Online_Learning_ConsortiumNEWBURYPORT, Mass. and DENVER, Colo. (July 7, 2014) — The Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C), the leading professional organization devoted to advancing the quality of online learning worldwide, today announced the organization is changing its name to the “Online Learning Consortium” (OLC), effective immediately.

“Our organization’s reach and impact has grown significantly since Sloan-C was first conceived in 1992,” said Kathleen Ives, D.M., Online Learning Consortium acting chief executive officer and executive director. “Almost two decades later, and now a self-sustaining organization, the time has come to rebrand as we move into new markets worldwide.”

The new name, which more clearly articulates the Consortium’s mission and supports its goals for expanding its programs and services globally, is being unveiled at this week’s Blended Learning Conference & Workshop in Denver, Colorado.

Consortium members will continue to have access to the same community, publications, research, programs, conferences and other resources they have always enjoyed through Sloan-C membership.

Originally funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, OLC is now a non-profit, 501(c)(3) member-sustained organization.

“The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation was the forward-looking benefactor that fueled the development of online learning in American higher education,” said Joel Hartman, Ed.D., president of the OLC Board of Directors. “As the Online Learning Consortium, we honor this heritage with a commitment to evolve the organization to continually address the needs of our members and the online learning community worldwide.”
