Read the full report: Hezel Associates report identifies top markets for U.S. higher education export

March 9, 2005

“Institutions are increasingly exporting American courses to other lands,” said Hezel Associates president Dr. Richard Hezel. “With the global market for online higher education estimated to exceed $69 billion by 2015, these organizations need to know the market before considering education export.”

Hezel, joined by Kosmo Kalliarekos, senior partner, Parthenon Capital, and Mike Looney, senior director, Education & Partner Marketing Adobe Systems, presented his findings during the IIR presentation, “Assessing the Global Marketplace for K12 and Postsecondary to Advance Your Growth.”

Several factors fueling the growth of education export include the increasing technological capacity for e-learning in the United States and abroad; a surge in demand for United States higher education; a dearth of higher education opportunities in many foreign countries; and fluctuations in the United States higher education population.

Hezel’s company recently released a series of reports that explore the higher education markets in Asia, Latin America and Europe. The reports detail opportunities by country and include information on respective education systems, technology infrastructures, policy, language and economic data. They follow a series of successful U.S. reports Hezel Associates conducted on distance learning, which were used extensively by state and federal education and technology policy leaders.

“Reading the Hezel Associates report on global education opportunities can help minimize risk by allowing institutions to understand which country(s) are best aligned with their goals,” explained Hezel. “In addition to helping institutions broaden their market, we hope to aid policy leaders on a global level as well. Already, we see the opportunity for even more market-specific research.”
