American Public University System names new board chairwoman
“Dr. Zatz has an impressive background in both higher education and technology — providing us the insights necessary to shape our growth and enrich our curriculum,“ says Wally Boston, president and chief executive officer for the University System, which serves more than 12,000 online learners worldwide (www.apus.edu). “Ultimately, her appointment is part of our overall mission to provide superior and relevant distance learning opportunities.â€
“I’m honored to be leading such a phenomenal team, one that is making a real difference in the lives of our students,†says Zatz, who earned her doctorate in higher and adult education from Columbia University’s Teachers College. “The University System has achieved much since its founding and we are poised to achieve even more.â€
Zatz brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education administration, with a focus on integrating technology. As dean of student affairs for Hudson County Community College, Jersey City, N.J., she helped the institution become the state’s fastest growing college. She also led its efforts to offer online registration and an academic audit degree system.
Prior to her position at Hudson, Zatz was dean of student services at the College of Aeronautics, Flushing, N.Y., where she created programs to boost enrollments. She has been president of the New Jersey Dean’s Association for Community Colleges, a member of the legislative committee for the Council of County Colleges, and a Middle States Association peer evaluator.
Zatz also holds two master’s degrees from Columbia University. She earned certificates from the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University and Higher Education Resource Services at Wellesley College.
American Public University System is comprised of American Public University (APU) and American Military University (AMU). The distance learning institution delivers more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs, providing relevant and affordable distance learning — taught by professors who are experienced in the real-world subjects they teach.
