Wireless Goes the Last Mile

The projection still startles. Nokia (NOK) calculates that globally, by the end of 2003, mobile devices will surpass fixed-line desktop computers as a means of connecting to the Internet. “Mobile devices,” of course, refer to everything from cell phones to PalmPilots. But less noticed are wireless technologies whose roles in defining the next-generation Internet could be equally dramatic.
