Winds of Change: Charting the Course of IT in the Twenty-First Century

The first maxim is to view IT from the crow’s nest. The crow’s nest is a place high upon the ship’s tallest mast. A sailor would climb up the rigging to the crow’s nest, in order to view the horizon from that higher vantage point and look for enemy ships or breeching whales. For those of us in higher education IT, this view from the crow’s nest is essentially the issue of vision—of having a sense of where we are going, where the new technology is taking us, how we can provide better IT services, and what IT can do to transform higher education. This vision is critical to effective leadership.
