WebCT Establishes Learning Innovations Network

February 27, 2002

Long Beach, CA, Tech Ed Conference — February 26, 2002 – WebCT, the world’s

leading provider of integrated e-learning systems for higher education, announced

today that it has established the WebCT Learning Innovations Network. The Network

is a community of industry-leading technology infrastructure providers, educational

content providers and learning applications providers that offer integrated

or compatible products with WebCT’s e-learning systems.

Network members are committed to extending the capabilities of WebCT systems

in order to maximize the value of customers’ e-learning programs and investments.

WebCT is committed to bringing together best-of-breed partners who work closely

with WebCT to provide high additional value to customers by leveraging WebCT’s

extensible, open architecture and commitment to industry standards.

"As eLearning programs move to the forefront of most higher education

institutions’ missions, it is critical that institutions can quickly implement

solutions with the right mix of technologies to improve teaching and learning

and enhance enterprise-wide operational activities," said Carol Vallone,

president and CEO of WebCT. "As an industry leader, we are committed to

bringing together our partners so that our customers have the ability to customize

and extend their e-learning possibilities through WebCT."

WebCT also announced today that seven companies were becoming new WebCT Innovations

Network members, joining the technology infrastructure and educational content

providers. They include:

  • HorizonLive
  • Respondus
  • AXS Technologies
  • QuestionMark
  • Tegrity
  • Wimba
  • Design Science

All of WebCT’s partners have products that are being used in conjunction with

WebCT e-learning systems on customer campuses today. An example of one customer

benefiting from the strength of WebCT’s partnerships is California State University

(CSU), Chico. Chico is using WebCT and Horizon Live to offer faculty the ability

to combine live Internet instruction with WebCT’s rich course environment.

"The combination of WebCT and HorizonLive technologies allowed us to

move from a satellite-based distance education program to a hybrid live-Internet

and on-demand format," said Bill Evans, operations manager, Distributed

Learning Technologies, California State University, Chico. "We’re providing

students far more flexibility to access the lectures and materials than ever

before and students clearly appreciate it. Faculty and students find that

the blended live and on-demand environment is far richer, and provides more

flexibility, than either product would on its own. Our enrollments have increased

since we moved to Internet delivery through WebCT and HorizonLive."

With the introduction of WebCT’s next-generation e-learning platform and a

Software Development Kit (SDK), WebCT will facilitate further integration of

these products so that WebCT customers can leverage innovative teaching and

learning technologies and maximize their e-learning investments.
