WebCT Announces Campus-Wide Licensing Agreement With Indiana State University

August 16, 2001

WebCT recently announced that Indiana State University (ISU) has selected WebCT as its university-wide course management system. The University will use WebCT across its entire system starting this summer so that web-enhanced and online classes, is available to all faculty (approximately 600) with a total enrollment of 12,000 students.

ISU joins WebCT’s global customer network of 2,211 institutional customers using higher education’s #1 course management system. Under the terms of the agreement, WebCT will provide ISU with a complete course management solution, including a WebCT 3.5 Campus Edition license, implementation consulting services, tech support and faculty and administration training.

As the University uses SCT Banner for its student information system and Campus Pipeline for its portal, its selection of WebCT 3.5 Campus Edition makes it one of the first higher education institutions deploying the Connected Learning Solution, from Product Integration Alliance members WebCT; SCT, a leading global provider of enterprise software solutions; and Campus Pipeline, the top provider of Web platforms for higher education. The Connected Learning Solution is the first product suite that integrates all major campus technologies so that colleges and universities can improve student services, simplify and reduce the time to deploy technologies, and streamline administrative processes.

Course information, such as a student’s final grade, can be easily entered in the WebCT gradebook and automatically communicated to the SCT administrative solution, without the need for time-consuming downloads, administrator batch updates or re-entry of data. The Campus Pipelineā„¢ Web platform provides single sign-on and visual integration for WebCT Campus Edition 3.5 course tools as well as supporting visual/data integration provided through the SCT Connection for WebCT.

The ability to achieve seamless three-way integration between its course management system and its student information system and portal was the deciding factor in switching the University’s course management system to WebCT. Robert Jefferson, ISU’s Executive Director of Information Technology and Leon Pennel, Director of Institutional Computing, led the institution’s evaluation process that culminated in the decision to license WebCT 3.5 Campus Edition.

“ISU is a student-centered learning community that has student success as its highest priority,” said Jefferson. “And one strategic decision we have made to provide the best possible student learning experience is to deploy the latest education technology to enhance the student learning experience. WebCT will be a major component of our campus-wide e-learning system, which will integrate our course management and student information systems and our portal. ISU will be able to provide academic, administrative, and communications services for traditional and non-traditional learners – anytime, anyplace.”

“WebCT is pleased that ISU made the switch to WebCT 3.5 Campus Edition for university-wide implementation of its course management system,” said Carol A. Vallone, President and CEO of WebCT. “And we are especially pleased that Indiana State is one of the first institutions deploying the Connected Learning Solution that we developed with SCT and Campus Pipeline. We look forward to working in partnership with ISU to implement enhanced teaching and learning models, and to provide online solutions that have become necessary to satisfy the increasing service expectations of students.”
