Walden Institute to Offer the Web’s First Real-time Synchronous Learning Program

May 9, 2001

Bonita Springs, FL – Walden Institute, a leader in providing online certificate and professional development programs in technology, business and management, is now offering the first Certified Synchronous Instructor (CSI) Program conducted completely online. The eight-week CSI Program will teach corporate and academic instructors to design and deliver live Web-based instruction and presentations.

In Walden’s synchronous online courses, individuals learn together, via “live” online events such as Web conferences and interactive presentations. Learners benefit from group interaction and participate individually from their own computers rather than in a traditional classroom setting.

Through a series of design projects and live online events, the CSI program teaches practical applications and techniques that can be implemented using any synchronous software.

“Once again, Walden is leading the way when it comes to offering online programs that instruct trainers in how to maximize the impact of their online course offerings,” said Jeff Konzak, President of Walden Institute. “We were the first in the e-learning industry to offer a certification program for online instruction and we are the first with a Certified Synchronous Instructor Program. Equally important, is the live format of the program which allows learners to interact with their instructors in real-time.”

Walden was the first to offer a Certified Online Instructor (COI) program and learners in the CSI program will benefit from Walden’s experienced instructors who have already trained and certified more than 600 professionals in online instruction. During the CSI courses, participants will learn:

  • The basic characteristics of synchronous online instruction

  • The nature of online learners

  • Effective use of tools available for synchronous online instruction

  • How to design a synchronous online instructional program

  • How to evaluate the effectiveness of a synchronous online session

  • How to integrate synchronous online courses with asynchronous online instruction and traditional classroom instruction

  • How to become an effective synchronous online instructor

  • How to handle implementation and organizational issues associated with online instruction
