VBrick Systems Joins Internet2 Consortium Accelerating Revolutionary Internet Applications

December 12, 2001

VBrick Systems recently announced it has become a sponsor of the Internet2 Consortium, joining universities, industry and government in the development and deployment of advanced Internet applications and network services.

A not-for-profit organization led by over 180 U.S. universities, Internet2 is developing and testing new technologies that will enable revolutionary applications such as digital libraries, virtual laboratories, distance-independent learning and tele-immersion. As a corporate member, VBrick Systems has provided its award-winning MPEG2 video appliances for testing in support of these endeavors and is committed to collaborating with Internet2 Universities to accelerate the creation of tomorrow’s Internet.

The value of VBrick technology in the testing and deployment of the Internet2 was evident in the recent “Songs of Sorrow, Songs of Hope,” an innovative performance at New York University and the University of California, Irvine, melding music, dance and multimedia to commemorate the September 11th tragedy. VBrick Systems MPEG encoders and decoders were used to capture and transmit video of the events in real time over Internet2, enabling performers on both coasts to interact.

“Internet2 will have a profound impact on the evolution of the Internet and unlocking the virtually unlimited possibilities it offers,” said Rich Mavrogeanes, president and founder of VBrick Systems. “VBrick fully supports the efforts of the Internet2 consortium and joins them in their goal to ensure the transfer of new network technology and applications to the broader education and networking communities.”

Currently working with a number of government agencies and educational institutions, VBrick Systems’ award-winning products enable the delivery of one-way and two-way television over digital networks for improved communications, education, training and security.
