University of Texas TeleCampus Selects Prometheus Software for Distance Education Courses

August 9, 2001

UT TeleCampus, the central service and support unit for online education within the University of Texas System, selected Prometheus, a leader in community source code courseware from The George Washington University, to provide course management software to the UT System.

“Prometheus brings the UT TeleCampus a powerful and robust toolset for both our faculty and our students,” said Dr. Darcy Hardy, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and UT TeleCampus Director.

Students pursuing a Master of Education degree via the Internet will have the first opportunity to use the course management software from Prometheus.

“The organization opportunities for our online learners brought on by using the Prometheus portal is an added bonus. We had a lengthy selection process and believe the opportunities available via this partnership are extensive; but especially we are glad to work with a relatively young organization that considers faculty needs in development as one of its major priorities. It’s certainly one of ours,” said Dr. Hardy.

Developed at The George Washington University, Prometheus is a community source code platform. The community-based model allows partners to develop and integrate custom features and applications. These additions are then shared with the community of Prometheus users.

“We have spent significant time and resources on developing a superior product and our selection by the premier educational system that UT TeleCampus represents reinforces our approach,” said Bo Davis, Managing Director of Prometheus.
