University of Alabama Chooses Click2learn’s Toolbook to

December 12, 2003

BELLEVUE, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dec. 11, 2003–Click2learn (Nasdaq:CLKS), leader in enterprise productivity solutions, along with its partner On-Line Training Corporation, today announced that University of Alabama, Birmingham has successfully deployed Click2learn’s ToolBook simulation and content authoring solution to address an urgent need for training on a new, customized Oracle system being implemented across the university. In just three weeks, the university was able to create advanced software application simulations to bring staff rapidly up-to-speed on the Oracle system.

ToolBook helps organizations create the compelling content and simulations that are a critical success factor in any organizational learning initiative. Using its powerful features, companies can create professional, standards-based simulations, tutorials, courseware and other interactive learning content without in-depth programming skills. Based on AICC and SCORM standards, ToolBook also makes it easy to launch and track ToolBook content through a standards-compliant learning management system (LMS).

The University of Alabama chose ToolBook for its strong simulation capabilities and its easy-to-use interface, which enabled it to develop a high volume of sophisticated software training within the aggressive three-week timeline set by university administration. Using ToolBook, the university’s training staff created eleven in-depth, interactive, Web-based software simulations that provided staff a realistic environment in which to get hands-on practice using the Oracle package while receiving immediate feedback on their competency with the application.

“Delivering content in a variety of ways helps people with different learning styles absorb knowledge more effectively,” said Brad Crain, VP, ToolBook at Click2learn. ” Providing realistic content that incorporates ‘show me, try me, test me’ options helps learners accomplish more and allows them to more easily and immediately apply the learning to their day-to-day jobs to increase their competence and productivity.”

ToolBook enables content authors and instructional designers to easily create effective simulations with little or no training. The solution’s simulation capabilities allow content authors to:

  • — More quickly develop simulations to deploy as demonstrations
  • — Automatically repurpose recorded simulations into three delivery modes — demonstration, practice and test, saving development time and more quickly providing the most training options to the enterprise.
  • — More rapidly create and modify complex enterprise caliber software application simulations designed for demonstration, practice and assessment
  • — More easily edit actions, transition steps and application features within software simulations with improved, built-in editing capabilities
  • — Accurately, record, capture and create software application simulations — including all user activities, application logic and on-screen controls — with just a few mouse clicks

In fact, Online Training Corporation, who provided ToolBook training for the university, used a ToolBook simulation created with ToolBook to give the training staff practice using the tool before they created the Oracle simulations for the university.

“We have made a very long-term investment in ToolBook on behalf of our clients,” said John Chapman, president of On-Line Training Corporation. “There is a level of flexibility inherent with ToolBook that other products lack. As training has migrated from floppy disks to CD-ROMs to LANs and now to the Internet, we have come to rely upon Click2Learn, to provide us solutions like ToolBook that are continually evolving to meet our clients’ needs.”
