United States Open University Announces National Accreditation

June 7, 2001

United States Open University announced today it has received accreditation by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council.

“This is a tremendous achievement for us because it recognizes and validates the quality of the institution, and the academic programs we are building,” stated U.S. Open University Chancellor Richard Jarvis. “It also provides attractive opportunities for our students to participate in employer-sponsored tuition reimbursement and financial aid programs.”

To receive accreditation an institution must have made an intensive study of its own operations, opened its doors to a thorough inspection by an outside examining committee, supplied information required by the Accrediting Commission, and submitted its instructional materials for a thorough review by competent subject matter specialists. The process is repeated every five years.

“Accreditation plays a vital role in U.S. higher education by providing quality assurance to students. We are delighted to have earned this recognition by the Commission,” said Carolynn Reid-Wallace, Chair of the United States Open University Board of Governance.
