Trends for Distance Education: Getting the Big Picture for the Coming Decade

Distance education has been described as a disruptive technology—an innovation that, while initially posing no threat to established institutions, over time challenges conventional practices and contributes to new ways of thinking (Archer, Garrison, & Anderson, 1999). I agree with this assessment. Distance education has already
become more than an alternative form of delivery.
