The University of Akron Purchases the Campus Pipeline Web Platform

Campus Pipeline Inc., a leading provider of Web-integration technology and services for higher education, Monday announced that The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio has purchased its Campus Pipelineā„¢ 3.0 Web platform and six new Campus Pipeline products.

“We seriously evaluated the various vendors capable of unifying our technologies before selecting Campus Pipeline,” noted Thomas Gaylord, vice president and chief information officer at the university. “Our digital campus, which is unified by the Campus Pipeline Web platform, is highly valued on campus.

“By purchasing the Web platform, Campus Pipeline’s new products and technical services, we gain the ability to further customize and expand our digital campus in a timely fashion.”

The University of Akron has been using the Campus Pipeline Web platform, version 2.1 since fall semester 2000 through a grant license supported by corporate sponsorships.

During the past year, the university has integrated PeopleSoft human resource, financial accounting and student information systems with Web-based email, news distribution, course tools and a homegrown online voting technology with the Web platform.

By upgrading to the Campus Pipeline 3.0 Web platform later this year, the university will add an iPlanet messaging server (email) and calendar to its digital campus.

In addition to purchasing the latest version of the Web platform, The University of Akron purchased six new Campus Pipeline line-extension products expected to enable The University of Akron’s digital campus to sync with handheld devices, deliver more personalized content for constituents, transfer data even more securely, incorporate group portals, deliver news based upon more specific constituent interests and consolidate course sections on one course home page.

These products are slated to be available to the university at the end of the year.
