The NSF Middleware Initiative (NMI), announced September 24, aims to develop an integrated middleware infrastructure for research and education. EDUCAUSE, Internet2, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, the Southeastern Universities Research Association, the University of California at San Diego, the University of Chicago, the Information Sciences Institute at the University of Southern California, and the University of Wisconsin will share $12 million in NSF funding
