SunGard SCT Announces Enhanced SCT Luminis Portal, Communication, and Collaboration Technologies

August 19, 2004

MALVERN, Pa., August 18, 2004 — SunGard SCT, an operating unit of SunGard (NYSE:SDS), today announced general availability of the SCT Luminis Platform III.2, the latest evolution of one of the most widely implemented portal products in higher education. The portal, infrastructure and enterprise application suite help institutions bring information, services, and communities together in a unified digital campus, and create a more personalized campus experience.

“The SCT Luminis Platform III helps us give students, faculty and staff quick, easy access to the vast services and information available at Plymouth State University. It is single sign-on to our campus world,” said Dwight Fischer, CIO, Plymouth State University. “In addition to integrating our SCT Banner student services, WebCT course management and a host of related information systems, we now have the foundation to build communications and views targeting specific audiences with individualized services and support.”

The SCT Luminis Platform III provides the technology and common software services that help campus constituents accomplish their goals and become more involved in the education experience. It is an essential component of the larger SCT Luminis product family, which unites academics, administration, and community life into a single network of people and services. Based on open standards, the SCT Luminis Platform III effectively integrates and delivers all of these critical components, giving institutions more flexibility in extending the life of their existing systems and incorporating future technologies.

“The Platform III.2 version provides the administrative control enhancements that our clients have requested, including new HP platform, Sun messaging, and Yale CAS single sign-on options,” said David Murray, vice president of SCT Luminis solutions. “The SCT Luminis Platform provides flexibility and integration capabilities that allow institutions to make their own choices regarding the systems and applications that best serve their constituents.”

The SCT Luminis Platform III is the result of four years of development, implementation of Campus Pipeline and Luminis technologies at more than 250 institutions, involvement in the JA-SIG uPortal open source community, partnership with industry leaders such as Sun Microsystems, and feedback from the SunGard SCT Pillar Institutions.

Key benefits of the SCT Luminis Platform III include extending the value of institutional resources, helping improve productivity, fostering community, and strengthening institutional branding. Enhancements in version III.2 include:

  • HP-UX OS certification for institutions using hardware from Hewlett Packard;
  • Sun Java Enterprise System Messaging Express Integration, providing another choice in email client;
  • Group and Course Studio enhancements that present greater collaboration and communication capabilities; and
  • Support for Yale CAS single sign-on protocol as an additional choice in selecting the appropriate protocol to meet an institution’s unique needs.

In addition to SCT Luminis Platform III.2, suites offered within the SCT Luminis product family include: the SCT Luminis Content Management Suite, for creating and managing internal and external Web sites and digital resources; and the SCT Luminis Data Integration Suite, which facilitates the unification of portals, applications and databases into a unified, interoperable information and service resource.
