SMARTHINKING Expands Reach; 75 Schools Now Offer Online Tutoring Service

March 7, 2001

WASHINGTON, D.C. — SMARTHINKING has expanded its market from two- and four-year colleges and universities to high schools, graduate schools, and consortiums, proving its services valuable to the future of American education. SMARTHINKING has also been chosen as the tutoring provider of the new distance education program developed by and for the United States Army.

In January 2000, more than 40 colleges and universities piloted the service, providing SMARTHINKING with important feedback as it developed. Launched in September 2000 as the premier provider of online tutoring for students of higher ed core courses, SMARTHINKING has now repositioned itself as a full-service provider of tutoring, technology, and training to colleges, high schools, graduate schools, and consortia.

From simply licensing SMARTHINKING’s learning support technology to managing and staffing an entire academic support program with qualified tutors in core courses, SMARTHINKING provides individualized solutions to each client, allowing each school to offer its students outstanding academic support.

Chosen as the tutoring provider of The United States Army’s new eUniversity, SMARTHINKING is slated to help 80,000 soldier-students achieve their goals.

Other new client schools coming on board in the spring include:

  • Kentucky Virtual University — Commonwealth of Kentucky

  • Kogod School of Business, American University — Washington, DC

  • University of Maryland Athletics — College Park, Maryland

  • The 38 Schools of the California Virtual College Consortium

  • Bunker Hill Community College — Charlestown, Massachusetts

  • Advanced Placement Economics classes at Indian Creek High School —

    Wintersville, Ohio

The word is out about SMARTHINKING, and students are taking advantage. Since opening their virtual doors, SMARTHINKING’s experienced and trained e-structors (tutors) have assisted students in over 11,000 online sessions. More than two-thirds of students who visited SMARTHINKING’s e-structors for assistance in writing, grammar, math, economics, accounting, and statistics this past semester returned to our virtual whiteboards and e-structors when they needed help again.
