Simpson Strong-Tie Taps Pathlore to Enhance Training Management and Effectivenes

December 22, 2004

“Pathlore will enable us to define and control our required training and skills for a variety of job roles within Simpson,” says Charles Roesset, Simpson Strong-Tie’s company-wide training manager. “We will enhance our training efforts by concentrating on the content and automating the administration.”

Simpson Strong-Tie, an ISO certified company, will measure training effectiveness and determine skill gaps and competencies using Pathlore’s software. According to Roesset, efficiencies can be gained by standardizing training among facilities and enhancing effectiveness with a blended learning approach. Roesset adds, “Instructions and operating procedures will be reviewed and training streamlined.” Simpson will also use the Pathlore Learning Management Solution to remain compliant with regulatory agencies such as OSHA and DOT.

Pathlore’s software has powerful reporting tools that Simpson can use to give employees, managers, auditors or regulatory agencies an overview of training progress.

“Our goal is to be certain that all employees are properly trained to perform their job functions efficiently and effectively,” says Roesset. “It’s not good enough to just train; we should know that someone needs the training and benefits from it.”

Pathlore Assists with Customer Training
In addition to employee training, Simpson Strong-Tie also provides training at customer locations. Last fall, Simpson launched a new training program for builders. The training classes are held at the job site and cover essential information on the correct installation of Simpson products. Simpson’s builder training program is also a pilot module for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center’s National Housing Quality Program. Simpson is on track to become the first certified participant in the NAHB’s Manufacturer Training Certification program.

According to Roesset, Simpson plans to utilize the powerful tools within Pathlore’s Learning Management Solution to manage its customer training initiatives in the future. “Our commitment to building safer structures drives us toward exploring new ways to improve the industry’s understanding and installation of our wide variety of products. We think the features in Pathlore’s software can help us as we move toward this goal.”
