SCT’s Munkittrick Elected Vice Chair of WICHE Caucus for Educational Telecommunications

October 24, 2000

The Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications (WCET) was founded by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). The Western Cooperative is a membership-based organization that serves as a clearinghouse for information, an advocate for effective policies, and facilitator of multi-state projects in telecommunicated education. A recent important work was the release of the “Guidelines for the Evaluation of Electronically Offered Degree and Certificate Programs” in partnership with the eight regional accrediting associations. WCET has members hail from 38 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, and the United Kingdom. In this position, Ms. Munkittrick will provide insight and vision to help improve access to, and the quality of, education in the member states through the appropriate use of telecommunications and information technologies.

“SCT is working in earnest to address the challenges facing the Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications,” said Munkittrick. “Whether the goal is to better serve students on campus or to collaborate with institutions abroad, learning and services must be seamlessly integrated within a single connected environment. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with WCET to develop solutions to the obstacles that stand in the way of higher education in achieving this vision.”

Much of Ms. Munkittrick’s career has been focused on providing leadership for the innovative and effective use of distance learning technologies in higher education. Now, with 21 years of experience in the education field — 16 of them using distance education technology — Ms. Munkittrick has helped guide distance education programs in both higher education and software provider fields.

“SCT has been a strong supporter of the Western Cooperative and I am pleased that Peggi Munkittrick was elected,” said Russell Poulin, Associate Director of the Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications. “The Western Cooperative is one of the few membership associations that treats its corporate allies as full members in the organization. The efforts of the corporate caucus in keeping us abreast of the latest advances in educational technologies are appreciated by the entire membership,” he continued. “I am certain that Don and Peggi will continue this tradition of sharing information and expertise.”
