SCT Banner® Supports Goal of University of California, Merced to Build Technologically Advanced Campus

February 10, 2004

SCT (Nasdaq: SCTC) announced today that the University of California, Merced has licensed SCT Banner® to support the student and financial aid operations of its new, state-of-the-art campus.

The Merced campus, the first American research university built from the ground up in the 21st Century and the 10th campus in the UC system, has selected SCT Banner as its student information system. UC Merced selected SCT Banner because of the University’s need for a rapid, on-time, implementation. “Although the campus does not fully open its doors to undergraduate students until Fall 2005, applications are already being accepted for graduate students and for undergraduates in the Dual Admissions Program. It was critical for us to be ready in time to process these applications,” explained Rich Kogut, CIO at UC Merced.

According to Kogut, “As a new institution with no legacy system to fall back upon should an implementation project go awry, we recognized that SCT Banner was a proven solution that would meet our needs, especially as it is used by UC Davis, one of our sister campuses.” UC Merced was able to draw on the expertise and experience of the IT staff at UC Davis and successfully deployed initial services in less than 10 months in time to meet its schedule. In addition to launching admissions, UC Merced began using SCT Banner Self Service for Prospects and Recruiting in December 2003. A limited number of graduate students will be admitted and will begin registering for classes in summer 2004 when self-service registration opens. Financial aid, student billing and other applications are expected to be operational as needed to serve the students.

“As a new research university, UC Merced needs to offer students modern capabilities, such as web-based course registration, from the very beginning,” according to Jane Lawrence, vice chancellor for student affairs. UC Merced will leverage SCT Banner’s web-based capabilities by integrating access into a single portal where students will use the same IDs and passwords that they will use to access other campus services.

SCT Banner is the market-leading suite of software applications for student information, advancement, human resources, financial aid, faculty support, advising, and finance. It is the only fully integrated, Oracle based, Internet-native technology solution exclusively designed for the higher education community.

SCT Banner is a significant component within SCT’s e-Education Infrastructure framework that provides campuses with superior interconnectivity, service delivery, information access, and personalized education experiences for all their campus constituents.
