Saba Expands Support for Open E-Learning Platform

May 2, 2002

REDWOOD SHORES, CALIF., May 1, 2002 – Saba (NASDAQ: SABA), the leading provider of Human Capital Development and Management (HCDM) solutions, today announced the expansion of its support for learning technology standards, growth in the Saba ecosystem of partners, and compatibility with a wide range of platform components. With this broad support, Saba offers the most comprehensive, open, and extensible learning platform available in the industry, and meets the needs of organizations requiring e-learning solutions that avoid proprietary technology and extend IT and learning investments.

Joanne Cuddihee, Program Manager for the College of Sales & Marketing at Anheuser-Busch, said: “Our core values include building a high-performing, diverse workforce and creating a safe, productive and rewarding work environment. The open Saba platform helps us support these values, while extending our current IT investments.”

The open Saba platform enables a wide range of learning components to work together or interoperate, ensures that customers are not locked in to a proprietary solution, and guarantees long-term investment protection for Saba customers. Saba has expanded support for its open platform through learning technology standards, a growing worldwide ecosystem of partners, and support for a wide range of platform components.

Support for Learning Technology Standards

In Saba3 Release4, the first integrated platform for learning, content, and collaboration management, Saba supports standards such as IMS (Instructional Management System), AICC (Aviation Industry Computer-Based Training Committee), and ADL SCORM (Advanced Distributed Learning Sharable Content Object Reference Model).

Unlike other systems that are proprietary or offer incomplete support, Saba3 Release4 together with Saba Publisher provides a fully integrated, standards-based solution for producing, delivering, and tracking SCORM- and AICC-compliant content. This includes the ability to track extended SCORM and AICC data such as interactions, which provide detailed information about learner progress and status.

Growing Worldwide Ecosystem of Partners

The Saba partner program is expanding globally with new suppliers of learning content and tools that provide customers with more choices to support their learning solutions. New Saba Content Alliance partners include AdVal Group plc, CE EduSoft, Indeliq, Integracao Consultaria e Treinamento, ITpreneurs BV, Learn2, Mentor Tecnologia, Presedia, Inc., PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning, QANTM Australia CMC Pty Ltd, Tegrity, and VitesseLearning.
