Royal Holloway – University of London Extends Digital Campus With SunGard SCT Solutions

June 15, 2004

MALVERN, Pa., June 14, 2004 — SunGard SCT, an operating unit of SunGard (NYSE:SDS), announced today that Royal Holloway-University of London will implement the SCT Banner Student information system and SCT Luminis as it embarks on creating a digital campus environment for students, staff and other users.

The solutions are an essential element of the University’s strategy to move its enterprise systems from in-house and legacy applications to fully integrated commercial solutions. A key factor in the University’s decision to select SunGard SCT was the company’s ability to deliver and support an integrated, Web-enabled environment that will help give students and staff access to personal and institutional information.

The University also identified major benefits that will result from implementing an Internet-native solution for the delivery of its student records functions. “SunGard SCT’s workflow and self-service features will support both the staff and students of Royal Holloway,” said Dr. Phil McGeevor, academic registrar at Royal Holloway. “Students will benefit from the convenience of having timely and accurate information wherever they are to help them manage their academic decisions within a tailor-made environment. This will free up staff to spend time with students rather than processing paperwork.”

Royal Holloway selected SCT Luminis Foundation to build on its current in-house portal implementation, which is based on the uPortal open-source platform. The SCT Luminis Platform, which includes uPortal technologies, will enable the University to significantly extend the functionality and scope of its current uPortal implementation while taking full advantage of SunGard SCT’s expertise and product support. The SCT Luminis Foundation also will provide the University with the infrastructure, integration, enterprise applications, and content management required to build its digital campus.

David Sweeney, director of information services at Royal Holloway, said, “We selected SunGard SCT after a prolonged and detailed evaluation. SunGard SCT provided the best overall fit for Royal Holloway in terms of meeting our strategic objectives and supporting our goals for Web services that enhance the campus experience.”

“We are very pleased to work with Royal Holloway as it expands its digital campus,” said Bryan Pentland, vice president international, SunGard SCT. “The University joins an already extensive and flourishing community of UK institutions that rely on SunGard SCT products and support to help them unify their digital campuses.”
