January 31, 2001

NEW YORK, Jan 30, 2001 — Kaplan, Inc. and its Quest Education unit today announced that Quest College in Davenport, Iowa, the school charged with spearheading distance education initiatives, will be renamed Kaplan College. The Davenport school is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) and authorized by the states of Iowa and Illinois to offer bachelor, associate and certificate programs in business and information technology.

The institution, renamed Kaplan College, has a longstanding tradition of excellence having provided high-quality educational programs to professionals for over 60 years. The college was recognized in 1998 when it was selected as one of fifteen schools in the United States to participate in the U.S. Department of Education’s Distance Education Demonstration Program, a pilot program aimed at providing greater access to Title IV Student Financial Assistance for students taking online learning programs.

Kaplan College is part of The Kaplan Colleges group of institutions, ( www.kaplancollege.edu). Each of the institutions within The Kaplan Colleges is separately accredited and authorized and offers a variety of career-oriented programs in both online and traditional classroom formats.

“We are pleased to now be a part of The Kaplan Colleges as we share the common mission of helping individuals advance in their careers,” said Gary Kerber, president and chief executive officer of Quest. “We will continue to offer our high quality business and information technology degree-granting programs to professionals everywhere.”

In addition to Kaplan College, The Kaplan Colleges group includes:

The College for Professional Studies which offers diploma and specialized associate’s degrees in Legal Nurse Consulting and Paralegal Studies and associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice. The College for Professional Studies is accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) and licensed by the state of Florida.

Concord University School of Law is the nation’s first online law school offering the Juris Doctor (JD) and Executive JD programs. Concord has been authorized to award the Juris Doctor degree by the California Bureau of Private Post-Secondary and Vocational Education and has complied with the registration requirements of the State Bar of California, which permits its graduates to apply for admission to the California Bar. In January 2000, Concord received accreditation under a pilot program from the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education Training Council (DETC). Concord is already the second-largest part time U.S. law program based upon the size of the first-year entering class. Concord serves approximately 600 students.

“Each of the institutions that comprise The Kaplan Colleges help working professionals accelerate their careers by acquiring the skills and credentials which can lead to job advancement, higher salaries and new opportunities,” said Jonathan Grayer, Kaplan’s president and CEO. “We see an incredible demand for high-quality training and are pleased to be expanding our program offerings through Kaplan College to include regionally accredited programs in business and information technology for professionals everywhere.”
