OpenGrid Announces Availability of mobilePlanIt, Providing Wireless Communication Among Sponsors, Exhibitors and Attendees At Conferences

August 20, 2001

OpenGrid Inc. recently announced a partnership with the WEB2001 and Internet+Mobile Conferences & Exposition and the general availability of mobilePlanItâ„¢, a product that provides wireless messaging and information distribution at meetings and conferences.

mobilePlanIt offers conference organizers the ability to distribute and update materials on-site through wireless phones, laptops and handheld computers. Attendees can network with each other wirelessly and participate in real-time conference polls and evaluations. OpenGrid’s mobilePlanIt product is powering the WEB2001 Mobile Application that will be used at the WEB2001 and Internet+Mobile event produced by CMP Media LLC at Moscone Center in San Francisco September 4-8.

The WEB2001 Mobile Application powered by OpenGrid’s mobilePlanIt provides sponsors and exhibitors with a more effective way to target attendees and distribute press releases and other news, and makes it easier for attendees to get the information they want and contact the people they’d like to meet.

“We wanted to demonstrate a real-world deployment of a mobile solution to the attendees of WEB2001 and Internet+Mobile because they’re exactly the type of tech-savvy people who rely on mobile devices to network and gather information in their day-to-day businesses,” said Simon Tonner, WEB2001 and Internet+Mobile Show Director. “We designed a custom application last year for WEB2000, but OpenGrid’s mobilePlanIt product provided us with a full-featured solution that could be customized and implemented quickly and easily, with less work and worry on our part.”

The WEB2001 Mobile Application powered by OpenGrid’s mobilePlanIt also helps attendees build a personalized agenda of what they want to see at a show, and allows them to choose to receive conference or exhibitor materials in electronic form afterwards.

“We’ve tested mobilePlanIt with some very demanding customers – the attendees of high-tech conferences who need to make the most of their time with the technology they carry,” said Jens Horstmann, President of OpenGrid. “We’re the first to provide a complete solution to the meeting and conference market, which represents 1 million events a year and $110 billion in related spending. And what we’ve done for CMP’s WEB2001 and Internet+Mobile conferences, we can do for any event.”

WEB2001 and Internet+Mobile attendees will access the application with their Pocket PC or Palm OS handheld devices, either through a wireless local area network or through infrared synch stations positioned throughout Moscone Center.
