OnlineLearning.net Expands Options Available to Educators to Advance Their Careers

August 11, 2000

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA … While much attention has been focused on the need to improve the quality of education and information given students in classrooms nationwide, very little in the way of solid, substantive solutions have been offered. As teachers are the key to the growth and success of students, so, too, is the ease and ability to access and complete continuing education and certificate programs for teachers.

OnlineLearning.net, in partnership with UCLA Extension and the University of San Diego, offers educators the rich environment in which to advance themselves professionally, as well as the exceptional opportunity to interact with other teachers from across the country.

“One of the biggest benefits OnlineLearning.net offers teachers is the opportunity to take advantage of these online instructor-led courses and certificate programs year-round, without cramping their work and lifestyles,” commented Dr. Chris Moggia, Director of Online Teaching Education for OnlineLearning.net. Weve worked closely with our partners to design more than 60 courses to teach our students the skills and experience they need in the classroom, while opening up an online community of professionals from all areas of education that enriches the overall experience.

For those teachers who are looking to broaden their horizons and add to their credentials, OnlineLearning.net has recently enhanced and added new programs to their education roster. We redeveloped our technology teacher-training program into three distinct tracks for beginners, those who are more advanced and corporate trainers, explained Dr. Susan Ko, Director of Online Curriculum and Instructor Development for OnlineLearning.net. In addition to new courses available this fall, we have revamped this program for teachers in response to how more and more institutions are becoming the driving force for their educators to learn these skills.

In addition to the extensive technology courses available to teachers, OnlineLearning.net is also offering the College Counseling Certificate program exclusively online. Recently, we introduced this certificate program, which had been a staple for UCLA Extension, through OnlineLearning.net, explained Kathleen McGuire, Ph.D., Director of the Distance Learning Programs at UCLA Extension. In California, for instance, a teacher needs a credential to be a counselor, but that doesnt address college counseling. With the highly competitive nature of college admissions, students need to be advised early on in their education about such things as taking AP [advanced placement] courses. Our courses comprise the only certificate program that targets this very important area for counseling students about their futures. This program has been a pretty successful online program, so much so that were going to offer it exclusively online in the near future.

OnlineLearning.net offers a wide range of programs of study for educators, including Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), which are bringing together teachers from countries worldwide. Weve had more than 6,000 educators worldwide take our programs online, added Dr. Moggia. Seventy-five percent of those professionals have further pursued their continuing education goals with OnlineLearning.net beyond their first course. In addition to one-on-one interaction with qualified instructors and culturally diversified classes, OnlineLearning.net offers students the convenience they need to further their credentials and enhance their skills base to better respond to the changing needs and challenges they face in todays classrooms.

In conjunction with our partner, UCLA Extension, OnlineLearning.net has created the most comprehensive and well-established online teaching program available, added Dr. Ko. We are very proud of our graduates, who are providing leadership in the development and progress of online education around the country. More and more institutions, from K-12 and beyond, are anxious to have their educators bring these skills to their schools. It is especially exciting to see how some of our graduates are using their new skills to further their educational careers by implementing and coordinating new programs for their universities, schools, districts, and/or corporate training programs.
