New University of Vermont Web Template to Debut

February 4, 2002

UVM will unveil a new look for its Web site on Feb. 4. The design will be incorporated into the university’s home and top-tier pages and many departmental Web sites.

The change was made to keep up with Web users, who have come to expect sites to evolve both graphically and technologically. The site will be more accessible to those with disabilities and will offer expanded functionality and usability based on current Web technologies.

The UVM design is generated via a template, which departments may use to ensure their pages maintain the look and feel of the university’s home and top-tier pages. The template offers departments the flexibility to create their own content and graphics.

Since its inception in 1999, the template design has changed three times. Departments that use the template will find their pages automatically “flipped over” along with the university’s top-tier pages.

The template is maintained by the UVM Web Team, which supports departments that use the design. For more information on how your department can use the template, see the Web Team’s Web guide at http://www.uvm.edu/webguide or join the listserv for UVM webmasters, UVMWEBINFO, at http://list.uvm.edu/archives/uvmwebinfo.html.
