New Streaming Media Tools Automate Process Of Creating And Publishing Content

April 10, 2005

The new tools, collectively known as Accordent’s BlackBoard Integration Suite, enable non-technical content authors to save time and reduce complexity by automating the otherwise manual process of making streaming media presentations available to students within the BlackBoard Learning System™.

The suite consists of three software applications and a server-side plug-in that enable users to upload RealAudio® and RealVideo® files, or depending on the tool, combine RealAudio® and RealVideo® with supplemental content including PowerPoint slides, graphics, surveys, polls as well as email capabilities within a branded interface.

In all cases, users simply log into their BlackBoard Integration Suite tool of choice and are able to access the appropriate course directly within the BlackBoard Learning System. There is no need to access an FTP client or the BlackBoard system separately.

The following tools are available:

Accordent’s Real Publisher Express: Users can upload stand-alone RealAudio and RealVideo files into the Blackboard Learning System just as they would any other content format (e.g. .doc, .pdf, etc.)

Accordent’s Real Publisher: Extends the capabilities of Publisher Express by enabling users to upload RealAudio and RealVideo files in a branded interface. Users can include supplemental content including presentation title, speaker name, photograph, PDFs etc, while maintaining a consistent look and feel.

Accordent’s PresenterPLUS for Blackboard : Users can synchronize RealAudio and RealVideo with PowerPoint slides, Flash Simulations and more, and publish them directly into their online classes. Users are able to collect critical learner feedback via surveys, polling, and email the presenter features. In addition, users can easily incorporate critical functionality such as Closed Captioning to ensure equal access to information.
