Managed Career Solutions Chooses Aspen to Streamline Learning Asset anagement at ‘One-Stop’ Employment Service Centers

January 23, 2004

BELLEVUE, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 22, 2004–Click2learn (Nasdaq:CLKS), leader in enterprise productivity solutions, today announced that Managed Career Solutions (MCS), a leading employment services provider, has chosen the Aspen Enterprise Productivity

Suite(TM) to create a template business model for integrating and managing learning assets and partner-provided services at the Hollywood Workforce Center, one of over 200 One-Stop employment services centers in California. MCS and its partner Enhancement Consulting Group, which provides content and will oversee the rollout in Hollywood, ultimately expect to make the Aspen-powered solution available to more than 3000 other One-Stop centers across the nation.

One-Stop Centers, which grew out of the Department of Labor’s Workforce Investment Act, provide a full range of public and private services that allow the unemployed and underemployed to re-enter the workforce or upgrade their existing employment status. Services include counseling, training programs, job placement, housing referrals and daycare, among others. Many of these services are provided by a network of partners, including government agencies, economic development, local universities, businesses and community-based organizations.

“Effective communication with our partners and management of their training assets and services has posed one of the greatest challenges to our staff in its efforts to provide the level of customer service our Continuous Quality Improvement program requires,” said Dr. Philip Starr, Executive Director at MCS, which manages the Hollywood WorkSource Center. “We chose Aspen to help us improve collaboration and sharing of resources, the utilization of training and other knowledge assets, and, ultimately, the ability of our employees to be more competent and productive in their day-to-day jobs.”

Managed Career Solutions will use the Aspen Suite — including the Aspen Learning Management System (LMS), and the Aspen Information Management, Performance Management and Collaboration Center modules — to develop a Web-based gateway through which all communications, performance and training-related activities and processes will be effectively integrated and managed. In addition to managing partner assets, the program will also provide broad-scale training and just-in-time information to the Center staff.

“With Aspen’s comprehensive features, we will be able to integrate and leverage existing mission critical assets and content into ‘learning communities’ customized for each participating One-Stop Center,” said Starr. “A single, Web-based solution allows us to provide superior coordination of resources and more effective delivery of services to customers, significantly increasing our ability to meet performance and contract goals. At the same time we are raising employee satisfaction, supporting low turnover by better preparing our staff to do their jobs, and reducing training costs significantly. We expect other One-Stops to be very interested in implementing this model in the future.”

“Managed Career Solutions’ Aspen implementation is an ideal example of the power of learning technology to transcend simple training delivery and instead drive the transformation of an organization’s business model,” said Kevin Oakes, chairman and CEO of Click2learn. “The mission-critical nature of technologies such as the Aspen Suite lies not just in their ability to develop and manage learning resources, deliver key critical information to employees at the right time or train and educate partners, but more significantly in their ability to increase revenue, decrease expenses and speed time-to-competency, creating a more competitive, successful business overall.”
