Lightspan’s Academic Systems Expands Product Line Into Programs for English Language Learners

July 12, 2002

SAN DIEGO, July 10 /PRNewswire/ — Academic Systems, the secondary and higher education division of Lightspan, Inc., and the leading provider of interactive multimedia instructional programs for college students, announced today that it will add interactive CD-based English language learning courseware to its offerings for the elementary, secondary and adult education community.

Academic Systems has entered into an agreement to add a series of CD-based curriculum programs developed by Edusoft to its existing suite of programs offered to elementary, middle and high schools. There are several titles in the series, including English Adventures and English Discoveries. Both of these titles are effective English language learning tools for students and teachers in grades kindergarten through adult.

Jim Dredge, Academic Systems President and CEO said: “Academic Systems recently expanded into the secondary education market with our Interactive Mathematics curriculum, and we’ve seen positive results in schools that we serve. Adding these English language learning CD programs from Edusoft will allow us to round out our offerings and serve even more middle and high schools across the country, as well as English language learners in elementary schools and in the adult education community.”

Both English Adventures and English Discoveries provide comprehensive curriculum suited for a variety of ages and interest groups and are designed for classroom use, yet allow students to work at their own pace. The built-in management system allows teachers to monitor student progress as well as access a variety of other teacher management tools.

Soly Kanes, CEO of Edusoft, stated: “We are proud to partner with Academic Systems, which shares our commitment to helping students by combining the best traditional educational approaches with innovative, effective technologies. We are looking forward to reaching more students and teachers by combining resources with Academic Systems.”
