JonesKnowledge.com Launches Unprecedented Guide for K-12 Educators: ‘A Blueprint for Online Learning’

June 27, 2001

JonesKnowledge.com, Inc. recently unveiled A Blueprint for Online Learning, a free, Internet-based course designed to provide participants with all the tools necessary to implement an online learning program. The course is drawn from a series of seminars led this spring by Julie Young, executive director of Florida Virtual School (FVS), formerly known as The Florida Online High School. FVS is a highly regarded, online high school serving students throughout Florida.

A Blueprint for Online Learning is invaluable for the education professional contemplating an online learning program, whether it involves putting one class online or a school’s entire curricula. Its step-by-step approach poses important questions whose answers determine subsequent courses of action, beginning with, “What are you hoping to accomplish?” and ending with, “How do you evaluate the success of your program?” Covered in between are issues such as needs analysis; priorities; infrastructure; budgets and funding; staffing and administration; course content; and implementation and marketing.

Attendees of this spring’s seminars were universally impressed with the information and tools provided them. Said Fred Scott, instructional specialist of technology for the 51,000-student Chesterfield County Public Schools in Virginia, “This seminar will be beneficial for any institution wanting to formulate, prepare and organize the process of online learning.”

Integral to the program are Young’s “pioneer” stories describing the evolution of FVS, which began with no predecessors to turn to for guidance.

“When we started, we literally had to sit down and invent things as we went along,” Young said, “including the classes. One of the reasons we built A Blueprint for Online Learning with JonesKnowledge was to let people know they don’t have to reinvent the wheel. If you make the right choices, initiating an online program today can be a very cost- and time-efficient proposition.”

A Blueprint for Online Learning is being delivered via Jones e-educationwe, the management and delivery software platform provided by JonesKnowledge and used by FVS. The course may be taken free of charge by first registering at http://fohsseminar.jonesknowledge.com.
