Iona Launches Online Web Services Development Resource XMLBus.com

May 2, 2001

IONA®, the leading e-business platform provider for Total Business Integration™ (NASDAQ: IONA), today launched XMLBus.com, an interactive web site where developers can learn, test and work with live Web services and download free copies of IONA’s iPortal XMLBus Technology Preview.

XMLBus.com is dedicated entirely to Web services and organized into 3 sections: Learn, Play, and Work. The Learn section of the site provides tutorials and links that explain Web Services, the standards driving the adoption of Web services, and the iPortal XMLBus Technology Preview. The Play section allows developers to interact with live Web service demos and to browse through a web service repository. The Work section is where developers will find a free download of the iPortal XMLBus Technology Preview.

The iPortal XMLBus Technology Preview is a graphical, wizard-driven development environment that allows users to build and consume enterprise applications and data as Web Services. It provides tools and a runtime environment for creating Web Services from existing Java and J2EE applications without the need to rewrite code and automatically generates Java-based client-side proxies. iPortal XMLBus supports both IONA’s iPortal Application Server™ version 1.3 and BEA Weblogic Server™ version 6.

“Web services are the most important new development approach in e-business systems,” said Rebecca Dias, product manager for iPortal XMLBus at IONA. “Web services will be how business processes are exposed, used, and managed over the Internet, reducing operational costs and increasing business velocity.”
