Haivision introduces the hai200 TASMAN Multi Format MPEG-4 H.264 CODEC

June 9, 2005

Montreal, Canada, June 7, 2005 – HaiVision Systems Inc. is demonstrating its newest high resolution video communication solution, the hai200 TASMAN™ multi format video communication system, at InfoComm 05 in Las Vegas, NV on June 8, 9, 10. HaiVision is significantly expanding its solution offering for interactive video systems, and, as part of its commitment to emerging standards, is showcasing the most advanced, entry level H.264 (MPEG-4 part 10) and VC1 (Windows Media 9) compliant system. Come see the difference!!

The hai200 TASMAN solves today’s bandwidth dilemma – how to deliver high performance audio and video quality, comparable to traditional high bandwidth MPEG-2 systems, within bandwidth limited deployments. The hai200 TASMAN is a versatile and reliable interactive video communication system for video conferencing, web casting, multicasting or InternetTV applications over low to medium bandwidth IP networks.

HaiVision’s H.264 implementation for hai200 TASMAN is the first entry level system that takes advantage of all of H.264 components to deliver the best high resolution video and audio quality at bit rates up to 1.2 Mbps, where DVD quality is achieved. H.264 (MPEG-4 Part 10) is a new ITU standard made of several components designed to offer a single codec design for both interactive and programmed video delivery over a full spectrum of resolutions and bit rates. Typical H.264 video conferencing products announced so far have used a very limited sub-set of these components to accommodate limited processing power. The result is devices that have difficulty to scale beyond 700 kbps without introducing significant delay and image defects.

“HaiVision is proving once again that we deliver the most efficient implementation of new standards that remain true to the specification,” states Francois Gariepy, President of Haivision Systems Inc. “Our product always deliver the very best performance without limiting our clients’ ability to include other industry standard devices.” HaiVision is planning the release of a higher performance hardware implementation of its H.264 core for mission critical applications later this year.
