Government interference killed telecom

WASHINGTON — The beleaguered telecommunications industry has blamed its collapse on manipulative executives and their misleading of consumers, but according to a report issued today by the Cato Institute on the eve of the ninth anniversary of the 1996 Telecom Act, the “official version” of the cause of the industry’s current malaise is wrong.
