Gallaudet University Chooses Online Tutoring From SMARTHINKING

June 7, 2004

Like most college students, Gallaudet students excel when provided anytime, anywhere, live academic support services. However, for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, “online tutoring allows an unprecedented level of convenience and support,” says Eileen Matthews, Associate Dean of Academic Programs and Support Services at Gallaudet. “Students and parents are thrilled to know that someone is always available to help in the subjects that students are most likely to struggle with.”

At SMARTHINKING, live Math tutors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the school year. Further, an online writing lab allows students to submit essays for critique and review within 24 hours. “Colleges have long known that students thrive when provided academic support and tutoring services,” says Burck Smith, CEO of SMARTHINKING. “Online tutoring services allow colleges to offer students academic support services beyond the campus and beyond normal business hours.”

Through the SMARTHINKING website, students may ask questions of trained, qualified e-structors™ (tutors) by “dropping-in”, submitting questions for next day response, and pre-scheduling sessions. In addition, all interactions are saved, permitting on-demand review and analysis by the student or institution. In the past two years, SMARTHINKING has provided over 300,000 online tutoring sessions to over 70,000 students from over 300 schools.
